After yet another senseless tragedy, this time in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands have reacted to the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history that left at least 59 dead and over 500 injured when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel onto a country music festival, with around 22,000 in attendance, below on Sunday.
It is not yet known what the motive for the attack was. However, investigators have said that there is no evidence the 64-year-old was linked to any international terrorist group.
Their statement said, “Senseless violence has taken the lives of dozens of people in Las Vegas. Our thoughts are with the victims, and with all those who are still unsure of the fate of their loved ones. Las Vegas is in mourning. We feel a deep connection with this stricken city.”
King Carl XVI Gustaf sent his condolences saying, “The Queen and I have, with deep sadness, followed the news of the brutal mass shooting in Las Vegas.
“We extend our sincere condolences and our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and to the American people.”
Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg also sent his sympathy, “Shocked by the tragic shooting in Las Vegas, the Grand-Duchess and I, together with the people of Luxembourg, would like to express our condolences to you, to the families and to the American people in this time of suffering. Our thoughts are with the many victims, their families and friends, and with all those affected by this horrible attack.”
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has sent a message of condolence to US President Donald Trump saying, “Prince Philip and I were saddened to learn of the terrible attack in Las Vegas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families and those who have been injured.”
The Royal Hashemite Court has said that King Abdullah of Jordan sent “his condolences to the bereaved families, wishing the injured a speedy recovery” in a cable sent to Trump. The King of Morocco also sent a message to Trump saying that he “strongly condemns this criminal act” and expressed “deep condolences and sincere feeling of sympathy.”
It is expected that other members of the world’s royal families will release statements in the coming days.
